Mérida is the capital of the state of Yucatan, in southeastern Mexico. Surrounded by splendid haciendas and archaeological sites of the Mayan civilization, Mérida is the starting point to the four cardinal points of Yucatan.
From here, tourist routes are covered and tourism is developed in its many forms. Mérida was founded on the arrival of the Spanish in 1542, on the remains of the ancient Mayan city of tho. Part of its colonial architecture corresponding to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries can be appreciated in the center of the city. During the nineteenth century urban architecture acquired French features in harmony with the economic boom for the cultivation of henequen. The Paseo Montejo is an avenue built at the time and inspired by the large boulevards of Paris, imposing mansions were built on its sides. Historical neighborhoods, museums, exquisite food and trova music, but above all the kindness of its people, make Merida a beautiful and special city, with open arms to pamper and surprise its visitors.
