Enjoy the unique charm of Italy in our small group tour passing by San Polo and Rialto market areas. Experience what Venetians do before lunch by visiting a Venetian osteria and taste a few Cicchetti with a glass of wine. The Venetian experience does not stop here. Cross the Rialto Bridge on a special gondola that is widely used as public transportation.
Let the Rialto market seduce you as you walk through it, marveling yourself at its vibrant colors and smells. Hear about the history of Venice and one of the richest and flourishing markets of the western world.
Visit one of the most beautiful
campi's ( campielli in Venetian) facing the Grand Canal, wherein the old times there were many workshops for the gondolas. Venture through to the Cannareggio district to see one of the oldest churches in Venice dating from 7th Century and restored during the Renaissance. Relax on the gondola that crosses the grand canal to reach the other part of Venice, where Rialto and San Polo wait for you.
After exploring Rialto market and tasting a Venitian osteria, embark on a walking tour through some of the most secretive areas of San Polo. This is where (at the time of La Serenissima, during renaissance times) east and west met and where merchants from all around the globe traded spices, precious fabrics, silk and many other goods.
The Venetian government gave the Merchants of Venice places where they could sleep, eat and drink, as well as places where they could store their goods. We will visit the medieval red light district of Castelletto, where the Merchants relaxed from their hectic life.
As we venture further into the Hidden Venice where postcard views appear in every corner, you can also appreciate the true charm of this silent city, far from the hordes of tourists - where it feels like time has stopped since the XV century. After strolling by, you will visit one of the most beautiful Campi (squares) of Venice - San Polo. It is like a grand arena (where there used to have bullfights!), with its elegant palaces, and is a complete contrast to the narrow streets, dark passageways, delicate bridges and tiny courtyards of the Hidden Venice.
The tour will finish back by the Rialto bridge.
Campo San Bartolomeo near the statue in the middle of the square.
