This full day tour is the best way to get to know the Northern Part of Ecuador! Not only will you sumerge into Ancestral Otavalo Culture by going to its traditional market and bargaining with the indigenous sellers here, but you will actually be able to go to the house of a handicraftsman. You will also be able to purchase leather in the famous town of Cotacachi and finally, you will be able to go on a hike at the top of the Cuicocha Volcano to see the beautiful lake inside.
Depart from Quito until arriving to Cayambe, where you will have the opportunity to taste the delicious "Bizcochos de Cayambe”, a type of cracker or biscuit baked in a clay oven (greatly paired with local cheese or caramel sauce).
Afterwards, we will make a brief stop at "Miralago”, where you can admire the wonderful view of the San Pablo Lake.
The tour then continues to Otavalo where Otavaleños (natives) have set up the largest indigenous market in South America. You can find everything here and through their handicrafts, understand their culture and believes. Our guide will make sure you pick-up on some of these important secrets.
But in this tour, we want to take you to the actual house and workshop of a native person of Otavalo. You will see how he builds Andean instruments in minutes and get a demonstration of their music.
We will have lunch (not included) at Cotacachi, a colorful town known for having great leather at a very decent price!
Finally, we will end at the Cuicocha lake, inside the Cuicocha volcano. You can hike to the top of the mountain or simply admire the view, it's breath taking!
