This morning half-day tour to Cotopaxi is designed for those who have little time in Quito or for those who want to take more advantage of their afternoon, but don't want to miss the magnificent Cotopaxi Volcano!
We will depart early from Quito and go directly to Limpiopungo Lagoon where you will be able to admire the always-snowed and second highest active volcano in the World, Cotopaxi. Get back to Quito before 2 PM, guaranteed!
Your tour guide will meet you in your hotel (if it's in the list under "Important Information" & booked with 24+ hours of anticipation) or meet you at KAIA boutique hotel at 7:00 AM to embark on this adventure to Cotopaxi!
On the road through the Panamerican Highway admire the diverse ecosystems of the route, as a clear sign of the majesty of the Andes. We will also make a quick stop on the way so you can try "coca" tea (great for altitude sickness!).
We will arrive to the Limpiopungo Lagoon, at the foot of the impressive active "Cotopaxi" volcano. If weather allows, you can optionally hike around the Lagoon (easy walk) and reach the "chuquiragua" forest at 4,200 meters above sea level. Chuquiragua is a native plant of Ecuador and Peru, usually referred as the Andes flower, with a yellow or orange color on top.
Cotopaxi is the highest and most active volcano in the world. The last time it showed activity was as recent as 2015, but no worries, it is safe to visit! If weather permits, we can appreciate its white-colored glacier that embellishes the colossus and will leave us breathless. Due to its almost perfect conical shape it is usually considered the twin of Mount Fuji in Japan.
We will head back and arrive in Quito before 2 PM. If you are free in the afternoon, feel free to go on a city tour or to the Middle of the World monument!
Hotel Pick-Up & Drop Offered (if booked with 24+ hours of anticipation) or you can meet us at Hotel KAIA (Valladolid & Julio Zaldumbide)
